A Discovery Journey for Youth of Indian Origin
Introduction
It's been 30 years since Alex Haley captivated Americans with "Roots," the story of the search for African ancestors. That miniseries was a milestone. “Discover Your Roots ” is a travel learning program, designed to give youth and young adults an opportunity to visit their ancestral homeland, to meet and interact with people of their age, to jointly explore individual aspirations and common challenges and in the process to discover more about their cultural heritage, roots, as well as some undiscovered inner strengths and possibilities.
Discover Your Roots - India
This journey, “Discover Your Roots - India” will take participants to New Delhi, Old Delhi, Agra, Bangalore, Mysore, Bylakuppe, Kalpatta, Guruvayur and Kochi that will cover a variety of urban and rural areas and peoples of different cultures and states of India. The objective is not to showcase India but to give youngsters an opportunity to experience the real India. On this journey, participants will meet with local and national leaders, participate in roundtable discussions with youth and young adults on topics of national and international importance, and identify emerging trends and possibilities for future collaboration and joint projects. Activities like spending a day one-one-one with a counterpart is intended to give an in-depth experience of real life, present day lifestyle and the dreams and aspirations of the youngsters. Discipline specific activities planned in areas like health, education, human services etc. |
